The defending MWJHL Champion Prairie Blaze picked up right where they left off last season, opening their 2026-27 campaign with a victory.
Between the pipes, Arianna Murdock turned aside 29 of 30 shots faced, including a few highlight-reel stops that kept the Blaze out in front.
Former Winnipeg Ice U18 AAA forward Halle Chabluk provided the early offence, scoring the first two goals of the game.
Annika Russell was busy setting the table with three assists, while seven other Blaze players recorded their first points of the newly minted season, a balanced start for the reigning champs.
At the other end, former Central Plains Capital Maddie Moerkerk scored the lone goal for the Western Predators.
Tonight, the MWJHL season kicks into full gear.
A packed weekend featuring six games gets underway tonight at the Hockey For All Centre as another season of women’s junior hockey gets rolling in Manitoba.
Welcome back, #MWJHL.
