The Virden Oil Capitals are off to one of their hottest starts in franchise history - going 10-1-0 to start the new MJHL season.
Thanks in part to a solid collective effort vs one hot line, Virden is seeing a whole team gel.
Although the season is still so young, Oil Country is representing with stellar momentum. Apart from a 0.909% league-leading win percentage, they also boast a league-best +28 goal differential.
The combination of Cornwallis, Manitoba's Mickey Gross (6-1-0 / 1.98 GAA), and Kasey Fuson of Sturgeon County, Alberta (3-0-0 / 1.33%) - is one of the reasons the Caps have been so strong on the back end.
Although their top player - Tyson Draper (pictured right), doesn’t lead the league, his 19 points in 11 games are good for 4th in the MJHL - and again speaks to a solid team effort if you were to look at their overall success so far.
Things are still early - but Virden has proven itself in the past to be a powerhouse in the West. Could this be their year to win it all?
